What is a Digital Nomad and How to Become One

Everybody has a dream of working a job where you can dictate your own hours, travel whenever you want to, and do what is needed from anywhere in the world; though the security of a nine-to-five job generally stops people from breaking out of their boundaries and finding a way to do so. Up until recently, the average company or business has always operated out of a brick and mortar premises; though with the quick development of a global and online community in the business realm thanks to advancements brought out by the world-wide-web, people have been finding new ways to work, from wherever they are, and under whichever conditions they choose. These people, either through e-commerce or online freelancing; are those that could rightfully call themselves digital nomads.

Industries that enable digital nomads

As you would imagine, the profession of a digital nomad is not one that applies to all industries but is generally only suited to those that use the world-wide-web as the cornerstones of its operations. The digital marketing world is the perfect industry for those looking to become digital nomads since most of their operations can be done from anywhere that has a stable internet connection. Web designers, app developers, graphic artists, SEO managers, and content creators are but a few of the positions in the industry where this is possible; since they rely on hardware that can ultimately be mobile.

Full time to part time

One of the gravest misconceptions about being a digital nomad is that it is not much different from having a part-time job. People who work towards becoming a digital nomad in order to cut their working hours down, generally find nothing but frustration, unfinished deadlines and a distinctive lack of finances. Like any job, being a digital nomad takes time, effort and interest. If you are not willing to put these in and work at it as though there is a boss leaning over your shoulder; then you will be unlikely to achieve success. As a part-time profession, being a digital nomad will grow your skill and bank account, but you will need to get used to living on far less sleep and free time than you do now.

There is, of course, a downside

Traveling the world with your trusted laptop like some sort of MI6 agent is an incredible experience, though it does have a lifespan; and this is due to a number of reasons. You will get years of unique experiences and will be able to go wherever you like, though you will have to find specialized ways of managing finances, time and customers. For me, the most difficult part of becoming a well-traveled digital nomad was that it limits your ability to build meaningful connections with people, clients or possible co-workers. There is no way for a digital nomad to settle down, except of course by changing their career approach. Travel is exciting, though can be lonely. Your hammock-side office has no one else in it but you. So who do you learn from? And who do you spend your time with? These are both very real concerns for any digital nomad.

What it Means to be a Google Partner

Becoming a Google Partner allows agencies and professional individuals to work more closely with Google when managing AdWords accounts: essentially benefiting from access to insider knowledge on AdWords, Analytics, the search and display networks, as well as website development; direct support from Google, and training programs geared for encouraging individual, company and industry growth and development. While Google Partner Status is generally reserved for companies, becoming certified holds many advantages and opportunities for the individual as well. If you are serious about breaking into the world of online marketing, then you should probably find out all you can about working towards getting certified.

Who could benefit from Google Partner status?

Anybody who is involved in advertising or digital marketing; whether in sales, web development, social media and search engine optimisation, courses and training facilitation in the advertising industry, or simply content management; would stand to reap advantages from Google Partner certification. Through it, access to an abundance of industry knowledge and measurements of standards can be gained through videos, documents, news updates and seminars. Those who could benefit from this include:

  • Sales personnel:
    • Salesmen-and-women who understand their product are more likely to achieve success when meeting with prospective clients. Google Partnership will give them access to information which will help them develop a keen understanding of the principles of online advertising.
  • Production:
    • When individuals in production teams work with the best practices for AdWords management in mind, it makes it easier for them to lay down sound foundations when developing websites, mobile sites or apps.
  • SEO:
    • Give better results with a sound understanding of search engine optimisation, the display and search network; as well as receiving direct support from Google staff.
  • Client relations:
    • Make it easier for your clients to trust the process of managing AdWords campaigns by walking them through the process in a way that they can understand.
  • Consultants and freelancers:
    • Obtain credibility and use it as a tool to create a brand for yourself, while obtaining a better overall understanding of the digital marketing world with information from the horse‚Äôs mouth.

Refining expertise

Google AdWords, Analytics and mobile site development exams can be taken for free by anyone who has set up a Partners profile. Once you have become a partner, you will be awarded a Google Partners public profile page, as well as a printable certificate.

There are plenty of exams to do, all of them being quite specialised; and the information needed to take them successfully is all available from Google, for free. So, there is no excuse to ever stop learning.

Education and Growth

Google Partners are often invited to take part in events, training and seminars on product updates, the Partners community and new research in the digital industry. This gives you direct contact with the latest developments, as well as professionally conducted and educational, insider seminars.

Becoming Certified

Anybody with access to the internet and a keen interest in advertising can become a Google Partner. All you need to do is set up an account, study incredibly hard while sourcing information, and pass some of the most difficult exams you may ever come across. Or, you could enroll in an advertising school that offers guidance and training towards Google Partnership as part of its course.
